i am back with the second dress.  i had to use this linen because besides it being super light, it has an air of old florida {and we are going to florida} that i like very much.

aca estoy, con el segundo vestido.  este lino me pareció ideal, porque además de ser muy fresco, tiene una onda a los estampados que estaban muy de moda hace muchos años en la florida (y ahi es a donde vamos).

there was really no reason for posting so many photos, but i have a hard time deciding which ones i like most.

for the ocean ::: para el mar

we are going on a little vacation next week, i am so glad i am going to see the ocean!  i have missed it so!
so instead of getting ready, i am making dresses for fiona {yes, dresses plural, i am cutting another one now}.

nos vamos de mini-vacaciones la semana que viene.  estoy tan contenta que voy a ver el mar!  lo extraño tanto!  asique, en vez de preparme para el viaje, hago vestidos para fiona (si, `vestidos´en plural, estoy por empezar a cortar otro).

i love the old fashion look of this fabric.

esta tela me encanta porque tiene un aire antiguo.

the pocket, my pride and joy.  but the next dress will come without a pocket, no time!
{i will add a photo of fiona wearing it soon}.

el bolsillo, debo reconocer que estoy muy orgullosa de como salió.  pero el próximo sale sin bolsillo, no tengo tiempo!  (voy a agregar una foto de fiona con el vestido pronto).

tutorial and giveaway ::: tutorial y regalo

so, i have had a few requests for a tutorial for the following things i made a while ago:

so here is my tutorial:

asique aca va el tutorial:

cut 12 circles of fabric, i cut 3 different sizes for this particular flower, but you can experiment with cutting all the circles the same size and use different fabrics, like i did here or just one fabric.  also, cut a smaller circle out of felt for the back of the flower.

corta 12 círculos de tela, yo corté 3 tamaños distintos para esta flor, pero vos podes experimentar cortando todos los círculos del mismo tamaño o, también podes usar una sola tela para todos.  también corta un círculo más chiquito de paño lenci o fieltro para la parte de atrás de la flor.

fold the circles in half and then in half again.

doblá los círculos por la mitad dos veces.

sew the folded circles to the felt circle.

cosé los círculos al círculo de fieltro.

sew the smaller circles overlapping the bigger ones.

cosé los círculos más chicos sobre los más grandes, si querés hacelos que no coincidan justo uno arriba del otro.

sew the smallest circles the same way.

cosé los círculos más chiquitos de la misma forma.

and voilà!  i trimmed the bigger circles a bit and added a little button in the center and a pin in the back.
note that if you use a stiffer fabric, like i did in the flower in the first photo, it is going to look different.

y voilà!  yo corté un poco los círculos mas grandes y le agregué un botón en el medio y un alfiler de prendedor atrás.  nota:  la flor va a ser diferente si usas una tela mas gruesa (como en la primera foto).

yesterday, while poor dave was changing the battery of his car {on father's day!} i made a new tablecloth:

this was my breakfast today, a very red plum, greek yogurt with honey and mate cocido.

and, i transformed this top that i have had for a year but i never worn because it made me look pregnant, but i loved the fabric:

i took the sides in and made braids for the straps.  i'll try to take a photo of fiona wearing it later, she wasn't in the "modeling" mood this morning.

for tiny feet ::: para piecitos chiquititos

this is the custom order that i talked about before.  tiny little shoes for a baby girl.  i used a hand embroidered vintage linen for the outside and gingham for the inside.  even though making something so small can be difficult, i enjoyed the process so much.

este es el pedido del que hablé antes.  unos zapatitos mini para una bebita.  usé una carpeta vintage bordada a mano y tela al cuadrillé para el lado de adentro y la suela.  hacer cosas tan chiquitas es difícil a veces, pero yo lo disfruté tanto!

still celebrating ::: todavia seguimos celebrando

sorry to have been absent from this space for so many days.  even though i am a gemini, i have a hard time doing several things at the same time. 
there was mother's day, then our wedding anniversary and then my birthday, all within four weeks.  so, we've been celebrating and we've been going to the antique stores a lot {i have to take advantage of these special occasions!}.  and to add to it, fiona is on vacation from school and i am starting to teach new yoga classes.  the time for crafting is shrinking...

perdón por haber desaparecido estos dias.  aunque soy de géminis, me cuesta hacer varias cosas al mismo tiempo.
bueno, tuvimos el día de la madre, nuestro aniversario de casados y mi cumpleaños, todos en un mes, asique estuvimos celebrando y yendo a los negocios de antigüedades varias veces (tengo que aprovechar todas estas fechas, porque después no hay más hasta el año que viene).  encima, fiona está de vacaciones en el cole y yo empecé a enseñar más clases de yoga.  el tiempo para coser y demás ya casi no existe...

i still managed to do some crafting, these are fiona's teachers' gifts.  i printed the photos on fabric and then i hand sewed them on the moleskine journals.  i am also working on a custom order, it's been fun.

igual, me las arreglé para hacer unos regalitos para las maestras de fiona.  imprimí las fotos sobre tela y las cosí a los cuadernos.  también estoy terminando un pedido de una de las mamás del cole de fiona.

mother's day treasures

i am going back in time, talking about sunday.  it was the most wonderful mother's day.  dave made pancakes and then we went to the antique mall {my favourite thing to do!}, where i found so much good stuff!  here are pics of some of the treasures i found:

voy para atras en el tiempo, porque lo que voy a contar pasó el domingo.  fue el día de la madre más lindo!  dave hizo panqueques para el desayuno y después nos fuinos a la casa de antigüedades (una de mis cosas preferidas!) donde encontré cosas tan lindas!  aca van fotos de alguans:

una toallita de mano para el baño de fioni, con aplicaciones y bordada, toda a mano, por sólo un dólar!


 
this amazing and very old flour sack that has a pattern to make a little girl's apron in the back {!!!!}.  i am planning to make a pillow cover with it, but i am afraid it is going to get dirty and then the pattern will be erased when i wash it {it says that it will come off with soap and water}.  finds like this make me so happy!!

este saco de harina tan viejito con un patrón en la parte de atrás para hacer un delantal de nena (!!!!!).  quiero hacer una funda de almohadón con el, pero me da miedo que se ensucie porque cuando la lave se va a borrar el patrón (dice que se borra con agua y jabón).  encontrar "tesoros" como este me pone tan contenta!

at the restaurant they gave me flowers, a glass of champagne and they took a polaroid that they put in this sweet card.

en el restaurante me regalaron flores, un vaso de champagne y nos sacaron esta foto polaroid que pusieron en esta tarjetita tan linda.

we ended up having cake somwhere else {but i don't have photos of that}.  the perfect day with my most favourite people in the world.  i am blessed.

terminamos el día comiendo torta (pero no tengo fotos).  un día perfecto con las dos personas que más quiero en este mundo.  que lindo sentirse tan querida!

mother and daughter ::: madre e hija

i had the most wonderful mother's day yesterday, i will talk more about it in the next post.  but today, fiona's class had a 'mother's day brunch', so much sweetness!  i had to make something special for us to wear for such a special occasion:

ayer pasé un día de la madre tan lindo!, ya voy a contar más en el próximo post. hoy quiero hablar del pequeño festejo en el cole de fiona para las mamás. me pareció que el festejo meritaba una vestimenta acorde, asique hice lo siguiente:

this was on the wall in fiona's classroom.  they collaged our faces and the teacher wrote all the things they said to describe their mums.  

estas caritas estaban colgadas en la pared del aula.  hicieron collages de nuestras caras y la maestra anotó todo lo que dijeron para describirnos.

 

this is me.  my description said:

"this mum smells like the colour purple, likes to eat at the duck restaurant, and likes feathers.

her favourite foods are strawberries, carrots and bananas and she eats these while watching her favourite TV show, project runway.

in her free time, she enjoys cleaning and eating.  to make this mum smile, just send her a letter because she loves getting mail."

"esta mamá huele a color violeta, le gusta comer en el restaurante de los patitos y le gustan las plumas.

sus comidas preferidas son las frutillas, zanahorias y bananas y ella come mientras mira su programa favorito: project runway.

en su tiempo libre, a ella le gusta limpiar y comer.  para poner contenta a esta mamá no hay más que mandarle una carta, porque le encanta recibir correspondencia!"

sunday is mother's day here, so i wanted to send a huge hug to all the mothers, mothers to be and those women with a mothering heart.  i celebrate all of you! 

el domingo se festeja el día de la madre aca, asique quería mandarles un abrazo enorme a todas las mamás, las futuras mamás y a todas aquellas que tienen corazón de madre.  las festejo a todas, las de aca y las de allá.

i had another solo trip to the thriftstore, it had been a while since the last one.  i didn't find many things, some vintage pillowcases, some patterns and these crochet coasters:

ayer me fui sola a la casa de cosas usadas.  ya pasó bastante tiempo desde mi última escapada.  no encontré mucho, unas fundas de almohadas de colores lindos, unos patrones de costura y estos posavasos:

i love all these colours, and how they look together on the tablecloth i just made.  they seem to have been made with love.

me encantan estos colores y como quedan todos juntos sobre el mantel que acabo de terminar.  parece que estan hechos con mucho amor.

i said i wanted to make more, no?  well, here they are:  the requested purple one and another one for a little friend.

dije que quería hacer más, no?  bueno, aca estan:  la violeta {tuve que cumplir con el pedido} y una rosa para una compañerita del colegio.

these are a little less 'frayed', i am experimenting with different shapes and styles.

estas son un poco menos 'deshilachadas', estoy experimentando con distintas  formas y estilos.

flowers in her hair ::: flores en el pelo

i have been seeing these beautiful headbands online so i decided to make fiona one.  i wrapped the headband itself with fabric and then added a frayed fabric flower to it.

vengo viendo unas vinchas con flores tan lindas por internet, asique decidí hacerle una a fiona.  forré la vincha con tela y después le agregué la flor (el estilo deshilachado es a propósito).

 

i really like it and they don't take that much time to make.  can't wait to make her more.

me gusta mucho y son fáciles y rápidas de hacer.  ya tengo ganas de hacerle más.

she appoved, but requested that the next one be purple, of course!

la modelo aprueba, pero pidió que la próxima sea violeta, por supuesto!

i finished another embroidery, this flower is called alyssum or sweet alice.  i don't like purple that much, but it is fiona's favourite, she likes it with a passion, like most things she likes.  looking at my photos this week, i can see that purple and i are becoming friends.  thanks fiona, for yet again, helping me see things with new eyes.

terminé otro bordado, esta flor se llama alyssum.  el color violeta no me gusta mucho, pero es el preferido de fiona, adora ese color con la misma pasión que le tiene a casi todas las cosas que le gustan.  mirando las fotos que saqué esta semana, me doy cuenta que el color violeta y yo nos estamos haciendo amigos.  gracias, fioni por ayudarme a ver las cosas, una vez más, con una mirada nueva.
